frequently asked questions

What do I need to get started?

Send an introductory email to tell me about your project and complete the Design Work Request Form. Once we agree to move forward I will issue an invoice for the retainer to begin your project. After the retainer is received, you will gain access to your google drive to upload your required documents. Once all documents are uploaded we will schedule your first appointment.

What are my required documents?

  • Measurements of your space and a sketched floor plan. If you have a floor plan, please scan it flat and send it. If you are working with an architect, CAD files are also great if available.

  • Pictures of your space - ideally pictures of all walls directly on, including the ceiling and floor of your space. Pictures of any furniture or fixtures remaining in the space.

  • Inspirational images - I recommend making a Pinterest Board for each room we are working on. Try to find images of spaces that have the 'feel' you are leaning towards..

How does a remote designer work?

We meet via Google-chat and correspond via email. Emails will be responded to within 2 business days. All documents will be shared via Google Drive. Each client will have a shared drive to upload their required documents.

What is conceptual interior design?

Due to the remote nature of these services, there are aspects of the design process clients are responsible for. Clients are responsible for all measurements of their space and confirming all future products will fit inside. Designs may include concept drawings, material specifications and 3D renderings (if desired), but it is still up to the client to contract the appropriate professional or contractor to implement the designs. Parts for any mechanical, electrical or plumbing systems within walls will need to be confirmed, ordered and installed by the appropriate licensed professional. Cabinetry may not be built off of provided drawings, they are to be used as concepts only. It is critical that your on-site professional measure and provide shop drawings and quotes based on our concepts. It is also the client's responsibility to order and coordinate all samples and materials for the job.

Do you only work remote?

If you live in the Tampa Bay Area I can assist! We can discuss what you have in mind and adjust accordingly.

What happens in an initial design consultation?

During the first meeting we will get to know each other to make sure I fully understand the goals for your space and how you desire to live.

We will discuss your floor plans, timeline, favorite brands and inspirational images.

How much does a typical room cost?

This will depend on the scope and size of your project and if your design requires layout options. Kitchens take longer due to cabinet designs and added elevations. Keep in mind that the more rooms designed together, the more streamlined the process since meetings will be combined.

See below typical hourly project break-down:

  • Initial Consultation = 1 hour

  • Layout Design Development = 2-4 hours (optional/if multiple layouts are needed)

  • Layout Meeting = 1 hour (optional/if multiple layouts are needed)

  • Design Development = 4-6 hours

  • Concept Presentation = 1 hour

  • Specifications & Design Finalization = 4 hours

  • Final Presentation = 1 hour

  • Revisions & Design Finalization = 1-2 hours (if needed)

  • Estimated Total ~ 15-20 Hours

How much time does the design process take?

This will depend on the client and the complexity of the project. I tailor the design process to each client and am prepared to provide as much or as little design assistance as needed. If you are the type that has a good idea of what you want but just needing help pulling things together, timing and costs may be less. If you would prefer lots of options, have a project that is complex or need more assistance the process may be longer. I will do my best to properly estimate the time of each project after our first consultation. As a general guide, creating concept designs takes 1-2 weeks from the point of our initial design consultation and an additional 1-2 weeks from the concept presentation to the final design as long as all requested information is provided in the requested time frame.

Are 3D Renders included in each design?

No, they are a completely optional service. 3D renders can be added to your project and will take place after a concept is selected. I work with a 3D Team and they have a separate additional hourly fee. Please also note, furniture and fixtures for these renderings will be generic unless a client would like to purchase an exact item to see in their space. A separate quote will be provided.

What is included in a final design?

Depending on your project scope the following can be provided for completed designs: floor plan, final presentation to include mood boards of all spaces, specifications sheet with all products, elevations (if needed) and 3D renders (if needed). If you are working with a kitchen designer, cabinetry elevations can also be provided to show generic cabinetry layout, type & sizes. Finish boards or packages can be provided upon request, these are created at the client's expense and take additional time to make.

Where are finishes and products specified from?

This will depend on your location, budget and style. If you have a preferred manufacturer or finish distributor I am happy to make selections from your preferred vendor. Otherwise, I will make recommendations from vendors where the client can purchase directly.

How does the retainer work?

This will he non-refundable $1,000 retainer is taken at the beginning of the project and as work is complete, it is deducted from your retainer. A weekly hours recap will be sent and if the project requires more hours an invoice for the second retainer will be sent. If more work is required than the retainer collected, you will be notified by email and the accrued hours will be billed at the end of the week. Design billing will then commence every week with payment due on arrival. All accounts must be in good standing to receive final designs.

What if my project is smaller than a full project?

Small projects may qualify for a half-retainer. We can talk about your specific needs. I evaluate each project during intake to determine the best course of action and estimated hours. Small projects include minor styling, decor or minor revisions.
